1st Virginia wins share of Tactical at Carnifex! For the second time in the last ten years, the 1st Virginia came up winners at this year's Tactical held on Saturday, Sept. 8 at the Carnifex Ferry event! The 1st combined into a company with the 15th Ohio and 49th Ohio. The 49th Ohio is the only organization other than the 1st to have won the tactical over the last ten years. Members of the 1st attending this past weekend were; Steve Allen and his nephew, who learned the drills and partook of his first ever event; Charlie Stewart and his wife, Retha; Justin Eubank; Mark Trail, his wife Cindy, and daughter Miranda; Captain Skaggs, Jackie and family,and Neil Randolph. The 1st West Virginia returns to Moorefield. Not since 1864 has the 1st West Virginia Infantry returned to Moorefield, WV. In September of 1863, over 150 officers and men of the 1st were surprised at dawn by McNeill's Rangers and captured. This time, we faired a little better and escaped without lose. On September 29, 2001, several members of the 1st West Virginia travelled to Moorefield. The event was a very enjoyable Living History weekend with two battles on Saturday and Sunday and an outdoor Camp dance. Another Successful Ending for the Season at Bulltown. Fighting Confederates and the rain, the 1st West Virginia Infantry again ended their season with another successful weekend. Every other year, Bulltown ends in a great way, our reenacting season. As always, the Stonewall Jackson Reenactor Group (2d Va. & 10th W.Va.) did a magnificant job of setting up this event. There is something to say about camping and fighting out of original earthworks. Gods and Generals. With most of the filming of the movie "Gods and Generals" finished, as far as reenactors are concerned, it is with a great deal of pleasure that those members of Co. A - 1st (West) Virginia Volunteer Infantry be reconnized.
